The complete guide to adding backgrounds to screenshots
Jumpshare's desktop app lets you add a background to any screenshot (or image) from within the annotation window. This background can then be customized to fit your needs using a host of powerful options.
📌 Background Options is available on both the Jumpshare desktop apps for Mac and Windows.
How to add a background to any screenshot or image
Here's how it works.
1. Launch Jumpshare and select the Capture option to take a screenshot. When you’re done, your screenshot will be opened within the annotation window.
📌 To open an existing image in Jumpshare's annotation window, right-click the image and select Annotate with Jumpshare from the context menu.
2. Click the icon at the extreme left of the tools at the top of the window to open the Background Options panel.
3. Choose a background. You may choose one of the 10 gradients from under the Background section or click the “+” icon to pick an image from your system or search stock images from within the annotation window. You may also select a plain color from the Solid Color section below.
4. Customize your background using the many adjustment controls below.
5. When you're ready to share, select the Upload button to save the shot to your Jumpshare library. A link to the uploaded image will be copied to your clipboard, ready to be shared anywhere.
If you're dissatisfied with the result and wish to start anew, just click on the Reset button at the top of the Background Options panel.
What does each customization option do?
There are several customization options in the Background Options panel. Here's what each does.
- Padding adjusts the size of the background.
- Inset adjusts the size of the border around your screenshot.
📌 The color of the inset border is set automatically based on the content near the edges of the screenshot. If there is one solid color around the edges of your shot, for example, the inset border will be the same color.
- Rounded makes the edges of the screenshot’s border more or less curved.
- Shadow adjusts the size of the shadow that appears under the screenshot.
- Auto-balance, when enabled, automatically removes any empty areas from your screenshot and draws focus to what’s important.
- Alignment lets you change where the screenshot appears on the background - center, top, bottom, left, right, top-left, bottom-left, top-right, or bottom-right.
- Ratio lets you change the aspect ratio (width-to-height ratio) of your screenshot to better suit the platform to which you wish to share it. For example, if you intend to share your screenshot on Instagram, you may want to select the option by the same name.
- Watermark lets you add a custom textual watermark to the bottom-right corner of your screenshot.
You can save a set of background customizations as a preset that you can apply to future screenshots with a couple of clicks.
